Rt. 528 will be closed

Weekend work planned for new intersection

JACKSON TWP — Route 528, the main shortcut between Butler and Cranberry Township, will be closed this weekend.

A portion of the road will close from 6 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday for building a four-way intersection connecting Jo Deener Drive and Tomlinson Drive, according to a release from the state Department of Transportation.

The closure will begin east of the traffic signal at the Park and Ride lot for about 1,500 feet.

Traffic will have to use detours on Route 19, Interstate 79 and Route 68, which will be in place during that time.

Emergency vehicles will have access via the new Jo Deener Drive, and the Park and Ride lot will remain open.

The new traffic intersection will eliminate the current intersection at Route 528 and Jo Deener Drive at a bend on Route 528. An extension is being built for Jo Deener Drive to its new intersection with Tomlinson Drive.

The project will not interfere with PennDOT’s paving and bridge replacement projects that also are taking place on Route 528.
