Freeport track clinches section

Both Freeport track and field teams clinched the Section 7-AA title with lopsided wins over host Apollo-Ridge on Tuesday.

Bobby Jendrejewski won the shot put and discus for the boys with throws of 41 feet, 11 inches and 136 feet, respectively, in a 114-36 decision over the Vikings.

For the girls, Kim Mixon won the 800-meter run (2:33) and long jump (14-0) in a 92-58 win.

Both Freeport teams are now 8-0 overall and 7-0 in the section.

Gavin Terwilliger added three goals and Nico Cicco had two goals and three assists for the Golden Tornado.

Owen Angerett stopped 14 shots in goal for Butler.

Girls Lacrosse

Shannon Doyle scored six goals as Mars cruised to a 17-5 win over Aquinas Academy.

Boys Tennis

Grove City swept the doubles, but fell short in a 3-2 loss to Hickory.

Winning for the Eagles were Will Kemeny-Will Rastatter and Jeff Biddle-Charlie Nesbit.
