Johnson HR lifts Mars baseball, 9-2

Isaiah Johnson blasted a three-run home run in the top of the sixth inning, helping Mars' baseball team turn a close game into a 9-2 rout of host Deer Lakes on Monday.

David Anderson struck out 11 in six innings for the victory, which moved the Planets (7-4 overall) to 6-2 in the Section 5-AAA standings.

A-C Valley entered its last at-bat trailing host Brookville by one run. But RBIs from Cami McNany and Halee Wetzel gave the Falcons a 6-5 lead.

Katie Stumpner then pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh to cap the win, which improved the Falcons to 3-4.

DeMatteis struck out 14 and was only one walk from a perfect game.

Cortney Claypoole singled, doubled twice and homered while driving in five runs for the undefeated Warriors (10-0).

Matt Wetzel had 16 assists and Dan Kline eight digs for Butler (9-3), which defeated the Gators by scores of 25-12, 25-12 and 25-20.
