T. William Shewalter

T. William Shewalter, 84, of Butler died early Friday morning at Butler Memorial Hospital.

He was born March 12, 1932, in Butler, a son of the late Charles E. and Helen M. Green Shewalter Sr.

Bill attended Gannon University and graduated from Penn State University with a degree in business.

He first worked in his family business, the Shufflin and Green Cement Co. in Butler. He was a retired stockbroker with Paine Webber. After retiring, he was a tipstaff at the Butler County Courthouse for more than 10 years.

A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he served during the Korean War.

He was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, the Butler Elks Lodge 170, the Knights of Columbus Butler Council 866, the American Legion Post 117 in Butler and the Butler Country Club. He was also a former member of the Rotary Club, the Lions Club and the Calvary Cemetery Board.

Bill was a devoted family man, who adored his children and grandchildren and most of all his wife of 56 years. He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh teams, Steelers, Pirates and Penguins. He also was an avid Penn State athletics fan. He had enjoyed playing golf.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Ellen Larkin “Mel” Shewalter; five sons and their spouses, William Larkin Shewalter (Rene D.) of West Lawn, Pa., Paul F. (Samantha) Shewalter of Raleigh, N.C., Bruce Charles (Wendy) Shewalter of Honolulu, Hawaii, Christopher E. Shewalter of Honolulu and Barry E. Shewalter of Egg Harbor Township, N.J.; two daughters, Mary E.S. Goodwin of Milford, Conn., and Susan M. Shewalter-Brown (Travis Brown) of Butler; 10 grandchildren, Jacob D. and Joshua T. Shewalter, Bruce Shewalter, Colleen E. Goodwin, Erin Goodwin, William Larkin Shewalter II, Thomas Nicklaus Shewalter, Paul Francis Shewalter Jr., Joseph Peter Shewalter and Michael Larkin Shewalter.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles L. Shewalter Jr.; and twin infant sons, John and Joseph.

SHEWALTER — Friends of T. William Shewalter, who died Friday, April 22, 2016, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N.
