Reed HR sparks Knoch softball win

Jessi Reed's two-run home run in the top of the fifth inning broke a 1-all tie and sparked Knoch to a crucial 5-2 Section 5-AAA win over Highlands in high school softball play Thursday.

Celia Knappenberger earned the win in the circle, allowing two runs on six hits in seven innings. The Knights improved to 10-2 overall with the victory.

Boys Volleyball

Ryan Bargo dropped 10 kills and Matt Wetzel contributed 20 assists to lead Butler to a 25-23, 25-14, 25-22 defeat of Fox Chapel.

The win lifts the Golden Tornado to 9-3 overall and 5-2 in Section 2-AAA.

Seneca Valley 3, North Allegheny 0 — The Raiders (10-1, 6-1) avenged their only loss to date by sweeping the Tigers.

Track and Field

Johnathan Asay won the 1,600 and 3,200 runs as Freeport's boys crushed Springdale and Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic.

In the girls' meet, Zoe Pawlak won all three throwing events in similar domination of the Dynamos and Trojanettes.
