BUTLER TWP — The 52nd annual Butler Invitational track and field meet takes place today at Art Bernardi Stadium.

The meet features 58 teams and more than 1,600 athletes competing. Events were scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m.

Among the notable programs participating are Aliquippa, Baldwin, Butler, Cathedral Prep, Central Valley, Fox Chapel, Gateway, Greensburg Salem, Indiana, Kiski Area, Knoch, Mars, McDowell, Mount Lebanon, Penn Hills, Seneca Valley, Shaler, Slippery Rock, Villa Maria, Wheeling Park and Vincentian.

Local female athletes among the top seeds in their respective events include Butler’s Emily Horstman (100 meters) and Alexis Leech (400), Moniteau’s Maura Kimmel (girls shot put and discus) and Butler’s Taylor Weaver (pole vault).

Knoch’s Jordan Geist holds the meet records in the boys shot put and discus. Freeport’s Dylan and Brandon Hochbein are the top two seeds in the boys 300-meter hurdles.
