KC softball wins big

17-hit attack knocks off C-L

Ashley Coon singled twice and tripled, leading Karns City's 17-hit attack as the Gremlins crushed host Clarion-Limestone 18-6 in five innings in high school softball play on Monday.

LeeAnn Gibson, Makayla Bailey and Katie Neff each had three singles for KC (2-2, 1-1).

Moniteau 6, Cranberry 0 — Kennedy DeMatteis pitched a three-hit shutout, striking out 14 batters in this home win for the Warriors (8-0, 3-0).

DeMatteis added a single, double, run scored and two batted in at the plate while teammate Cortney Claypoole singled, tripled, scored twice and had two RBI.

Ashley Schmidt picked up the save and also hit a solo homer.

Slippery Rock 7, Reynolds 5 — Macy McCall had a pair of doubles, a single and drove in two runs to lead the Rockets.

Cheyenne Hindman picked up the win, striking out 11 in seven strong innings.

Slippery Rock also downed Sharpsville 3-2 on Saturday. Hindman had a pair of hits and two RBI and JoElla Neal had two singles in that victory.

Pine-Richland 13, Butler 7 — Jen Miller singled and doubled twice for Butler (2-7, 1-6), collecting two RBIs in the process.

Noel Pfabe added a single, double and two runs batted in.

Butler had 14 hits in the loss. Pine-Richland banged out 17 hits.

Baseball

Cullen Williams singled twice, doubled twice and drove in six runs to lead Karns City to a 17-7 win over Clarion-Limestone.

Holden Martin picked up the win, striking out 10 in five innings. He also had a pair of singles and drove in four runs.

Zac Sicher, Anthony Grieco, Blake Thompson, Ben Lewis and Tyler Brown all scored three goals to lead Mars to a 20-4 rout of Chartiers Valley.

Boys Volleyball

Butler dropped a 3-0 non-section decision to Beaver County Christian by scores of 25-19, 25-17 and 25-15.

Matt Wetzel totaled 26 assists, Ben Fiorina 11 passes and Nash Bryan 10 kills for the Golden Tornado (8-2).
