Zarek Simkovich struck out 10 in six strong innings as the Mars baseball team remained undefeated in the section with a 6-2 win over Highlands Friday afternoon.

Jack Anderson and Nico Romano each doubled for the Planets (5-2, 4-0).

Cortney Claypoole came a triple away from hitting for the cycle as Moniteau rolled Quad-A Pine-Richland 11-0 in six innings.

Claypoole hit a two-run home run in the top of the third inning and also doubled, singled and drove in four runs for the Warriors (7-0).

Kennedy DeMatteis picked up the win, striking out 10 in six innings. She also doubled and drove in two runs.

Boys Lacrosse

Butler recently had a three-game winning streak snapped with a 12-6 loss to North Allegheny. Sam Lex, Jake Lex, Nico Cicco, Cameron Kovach, Gavin Terwilliger and Riley Coleman scored goals for the Golden Tornado.

In earlier games, Justin Jablonski scored four goals and Sam Lex two in a 9-8 win over Bethel Park; Sam Lex and Jablonski scored three each in an 8-7 win over Shaler; Jablonski and Sam Lex scored four goals, Jake Lex and Terwilliger two each in an 11-2 win over Franklin Regional.

Brandon Martin has made 37 saves in goal so far this season.

Track and Field

Several Butler athletes fared well at the Indiana 9th-10th Grade Invitational Thursday.

On the girls side, Erin LeMay won the 800 meters, Megan McClymonds the 3,200 meters, Lexi Hopper the high jump and MacKenzi Popovich the long jump.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Emma LeMay, Meagan Emanuel, Samantha Shuster and Erin LeMay took first place, as did the 4x800 relay team of McClymonds, Shuster, Emma LeMay and Erin LeMay.

On the boys side, Aden Dressler won the 3,200 meters, Cade Gratzmiller the triple jump, Tim Porter the 1,600 meters and Nate Baker the pole vault.
