BlueSox to feature throwback uniforms on Sundays

Prospect League club to pay tribute to Butler Yankees

The Butler BlueSox will pay tribute to the city’s long baseball tradition this summer with a series of Throwback Sunday games.

These games will feature new uniforms modeled after those worn in the 1930s and 1940s.

With high pants, the baggy off-white uniforms will have Yankees across the chest as a nod to the former Butler Yankees, a farm team of the New York Yankees that played at Pullman Park from the mid-1930s to the late 1940s. The uniforms will be worn during the BlueSox’ eight Sunday home games this season.

Honda North has teamed up with the BlueSox to sponsor the series of games. Butler will become the first team in the Prospect League to use true throwback uniforms.

Built in 1934, Kelly Automotive Park is the second-oldest park in the Prospect League. Minor league teams with the Indians, Yankees and Tigers played at the ballpark from the 1930s to the 1950s.

The Throwback Sunday games will also feature elements like older music and special food items. All Throwback Sunday games will begin at 6:35 p.m. with the exception of June 12 (1:35 p.m.) and July 24 (4:05 p.m.).

Individual tickets for Throwback Sundays and all fireworks games are on sale now at ButlerBlueSox.net or by email to Tickets@ButlerBlueSox.net.

Opening day for the BlueSox’ eighth season is May 26. The first Throwback Sunday game is May 29 against the Champion City Kings.
