Radvan flips perfect game for Freeport

Kristie Radvan threw a perfect game and Claire Crytzer and Ally DeJidas each homered as Freeport rolled past Valley, 11-0, in five innings.

Radvan, who tossed a no-hitter in her first start this season, struck out 11 in her perfect game Wednesday for the Yellowjackets (5-1, 1-1).

Baseball

David Anderson struck out 10 and gave up just four hits in seven innings as Mars toppled Hampton Wednesday afternoon, 8-2, in high school baseball action.

Anderson also had a pair of doubles, a single and two RBI for the Planets (2-2, 1-0), who opened the section schedule with a victory.

Brandon Weatherhold added a pair of hits and two RBI for Mars.

Deer Lakes 4, Knoch 1 — Cole Shinsky picked up the loss, giving up four runs — one earned — in five innings.

It was the first loss for the Knights (2-1, 1-1) since the Lancers beat them May 7 last year at Kelly Automotive Park.

Shinsky doubled and Addis Crouch had an RBI single for Knoch.

Track and Field

Brady Hartle won both the long jump and triple jump and Caleb Baxter claimed wins in both the javelin and 300-meter hurdles as the Butler boys opened the season with a pair of victories, 106-44 over Fox Chapel and 100-50 over Pine-Richland.

On the girls side for the Golden Tornado, Emily Horstman won the 100 and the 200, Julianna DiPippa was victorious in the long jump and triple jump and Jena Reinheimer won the shot put and discus in a 115-35 win over Pine-Richland and a 126-24 win over Fox Chapel.
