SV freshman gets big hit

Hans' game-winning single caps late rally in 6-5 softball victory

Madison Hans made her first varsity start a memorable one.

The Seneca Valley freshman, getting a start at first base because a teammate wasn't feeling well, delivered the game-winning hit Thursday as the Raiders defeated Beaver, 6-5.

SV (1-2) trailed 5-3 entering the bottom of the seventh inning. Karli Hacker hit a one-out triple following a leadoff walk. Tori Pfab's RBI single tied the game. Jodi Frontino walked with two outs.

Hans then singled up the middle to plate Pfab with the winning run. Hans had two singles and two RBI in the game.

Baseball

Tom Amsler struck out 14 and tossed an eight-inning no-hitter as A-C Valley won a 1-0 decision at Redbank Valley.

The Falcons (1-1) got the win via a solo home run by Dylan Stewart in the top of the eighth. Stewart had three hits in the contest.

Zach Muhl and Aaron Busch had two singles each for A-C Valley.

Boys Volleyball

Nash Bryan had 15 kills as Butler bounced back from a loss in the opening game for a 21-25, 25-18, 26-24, 25-19 win over visiting Deer Lakes.

Dan Kline added 14 digs and Matt Wetzel 38 assists for the Tornado (3-0).

Boys Lacrosse

Zach Sicher and Anthony Grieco each scored five goals to lead Mars to a 15-5 win over Sewickley Academy.
