Tornado earn 3-2 win, start season 4-0

Butler's boys tennis team remained unbeaten Tuesday, edging Montour, 3-2, for its fourth successive win.

Matt McMaster won his No. 3 singles match by a 6-0, 6-0 count. Cam Sedwick also won his singles match in straight sets.

Boys Volleyball

Matt Wetzel had six blocks and 37 assists as Butler (2-0) edged Fox Chapel 24-26, 25-16, 25-23, 23-25, 15-7.

Nash Bryan added 23 kills and 18 passes for the Golden Tornado, which travels to North Allegheny April 5.

Softball

Ally Tomicek scored from third on a slow grounder to second with none out in the bottom of the seventh inning, handing Pine-Richland a 3-2 win over Seneca Valley.

Morgan Aloi had two singles for the Raiders in their season opener. Tori Pfab doubled, scored a run and drove in one while Jodi Frantino had a double and run scored.

Seneca Valley hosts Mars today.

Moniteau 6, Revere (Ohio) 5 (eight innings) — Kristina DeMatteis singled with the bases loaded to drive in Courtney Sowinski with the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Kennedy DeMatteis picked up the win, striking out 12 . She also had a double and two singles.

Alazia Greaves had three singles for the Warriors.

Karns City used an eight-run third inning to build a 14-0 lead after three frames. KC plays Union Thursday at Kelly Automotive Park.

Dylan Dingel picked up the win in relief for Slippery Rock.

Girls Lacrosse

Hannah Bowman and Cameron Lindsay each scored four goals as Freeport edged Greensburg-Salem 12-11.

The Yellowjackets (2-0) received eight saves in goal from Morgan Ruppersberger.
