CWNC earns victory

Kenny Fukon scored 18 points and Erick Taylor added 17 as the Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic boys basketball team routed Winchester Thurston 65-39 in the first round of the WPIAL Class A playoffs Friday night.

The Trojans led 36-15 at the half.

Cardinal Wuerl will take on Clairton, which took care of Avella 71-37, in the next round of the WPIAL playoffs on a day, place and time to be determined.

Grove City 57, Oil City 56 — Brendan Record hit for 24 points as the Eagles overcame a sizable halftime deficit to topple Oil City.

Kaiden Young added 16 points for Grove City (16-6, 11-5), which will wait and see who it will play in the District 10 Class AAA playoffs.

Sharon 60, Slippery Rock 48 — Ryan Dutton scored 21 points and added 14 rebounds in the Rockets' loss.

Slippery Rock led in the fourth quarter of its season finale, but Sharon pulled away for the win.
