Eagles have 1 egg in their nest

PITTSBURGH — The eagles in the Hays section of the city have one egg in their nest, according to the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania.

The egg was laid overnight Friday into Saturday, when the Bald Eagle Web camera was turned off. The egg was noticed at 7:30 a.m. Saturday when the cam came back up, showing one of the eagles sitting on an egg.

The eagles will remain in the nest constantly until the egg hatches, turning the egg to ensure that the its temperature stays constant. If there will be other eggs, they typically are laid about two to three days apart.

The parenting eagles have been at the nest along the Monongahela River for four years.

A live stream of the nest can be seen on the Butler Eagle website, www.butlereagle.com, where there is a button for the eagle nest.
