WPIAL still using Heinz

But 2 title games will go elsewhere

PITTSBURGH — The WPIAL announced Wednesday that four of its six football championship games next season will be played at Heinz Field.

The Class 6A, 5A, 4A and 3A games will be played there Nov. 18. The Class 2A and 1A title games will be played at another site the following weekend.

That other site has not been determined.

Since 1986, every WPIAL football title game had been played at either Heinz Field or Three Rivers Stadium.

Winner of the WPIAL Class 3A championship will have the following week off before entering the PIAA semifinals. The Class 6A, 5A and 4A champions will enter the PIAA quarterfinals the following week.

Eight teams will qualify for the WPIAL playoffs in the top four divisions. Class 2A and 1A will both have 16 teams enter postseason play.

WPIAL conference and section alignments for next season will be released by the district Monday following meetings this week.
