Ex-Butler coach joins ACC legendsPITTSBURGH — Former Butler High School girls basketball coach and Pitt graduate Jonna Burke has been named to the 12th annual class of ACC Women's Basketball Legends.One former player or coach from each of the 15 ACC schools will be recognized at the conference's 2016 Women's Basketball Tournament March 2-6 in Greensboro, N.C.Burke, a 1994 Pitt graduate, ranks among the Panthers' all-time top 10 with 1,807 career points, 954 rebounds and 224 steals.Currently the girls varsity basketball coach at Bethel Park, Burke was 123-89 in eight years as Butler coach before leaving after the 2003 season.

Butler grad Suchonic lifts bowling teamKENMORE, N.Y. — Butler graduate Brea Suchonic was recently named to the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference All-Tournament team in bowling.A junior at Penn State-Altoona, Suchonic helped the Lady Lions (26-23, 12-4) to the program's first-ever winning season and a runner-up finish in the conference tournament.

BC3 men post victory on roadAustin Miller scored 35 points and dished out 11 assists as the Butler County Community College men's basketball team scored a 97-91 win Saturday at Penn Highlands.Ken Snead netted 29 points while Jake Anderson scored 16 in the win. Cameron Marshall had 12 rebounds.

Knicks fire Fisher during rough stretchGREENBURGH, N.Y. — Derek Fisher was fired as New York Knicks coach, with his team having lost five straight and nine of 10 to fall well back in the Eastern Conference playoff race.Associate head coach Kurt Rambis was promoted to interim head coach at least through the rest of the season. Rambis, like Fisher an ex-Laker player, went 56-145 in two seasons as Minnesota’s coach and part of a season leading the Lakers.
