Woman in hiding after car crash

Authorities want her to turn herself in

FRAZER TWP, Allegheny County — A Butler County woman — missing for more than 24 hours after authorities believe she crashed her car in this township — has turned up, sort of.

Amber Marchlewski, 29, whose last known address was Butler, is alive and well but in hiding, according to what a family member told investigators this morning, said Frazer Police Chief Terry Kuhns.

“Her sister said she’s OK but she’s afraid we have (arrest) warrants out for her,” Kuhns said. “We don’t.”

Authorities hope Marchlewski would turn herself in soon, by the end of the day.

The search for the woman began after she wrecked her car sometime between late Sunday night and early Monday morning on Butler Logan Road in Frazer Township.

But the crash, which sent Marchlewski’s 2004 Buick LeSabre over a hillside, wasn’t discovered until hours later, about 7:20 a.m. Monday.

Along with the car, which was totaled, police found clothes that they believed the woman was wearing when family members last saw her.

Among the clothes were purple jeans and a shoe next to the badly damaged car, and a blue hooded sweat shirt, some 300 yards from the car, that had blood stains on it, Frazer police Sgt. Brian Pazak said this morning.

But there was no sign of the driver.

Pazak said officers found Marchlewski’s driver’s license, car registration and insurance card in the glove box.

Police were soon in contact with members of Marchlewski’s family, some who live in Butler, who claimed they had not heard from the woman either.

Investigators said she was last seen Sunday at about 7:30 p.m. when she left a relative’s home in Butler.

Her family apparently did not initially know where she was going. Kuhns said the woman’s sister today informed police Marchlewski may have traveled to the Frazer area to see a former boyfriend.

Police believe she was traveling east on Butler Logan Road where skid marks showed the car went off the road.

The vehicle ran over a mailbox and post and traveled under a pine tree’s low-hanging branches before hitting a guardrail and rolling over a hillside.

“The car was filled with dirt and the roof was smashed in from the accident,” Pazak said.

The homeowner whose mailbox was destroyed discovered the wreckage shortly after dawn and notified authorities.

Volunteer firefighters and a state police helicopter on Monday helped search for any signs of the woman. Bullet, the Butler County Sheriff’s canine officer, and the dog’s handler, Sgt. Harry Callithen, also were called in.

Kuhns said Marchlewski would face a number of summary traffic violations stemming from the crash.
