Bailey shatters PSAC record

Butler High School graduate and Slippery Rock University senior Jasmine Bailey shattered the PSAC record in the women's indoor track and field 400-meter dash Saturday at the Youngstown State University National Invite.

Bailey placed second in the event with a time of 55.49 seconds, which also broke her own school record.

The previous conference standard was 56.27, set by Lock Haven's Jennifer Farrow in 2003.

In the men's competition, SRU's 4x400 relay team won the event with a time of 3:16.87, the fastest time of any PSAC school this season. The quartet included Jacob VanHouten, Caleb Smithco, Monte Chapman and James Chandler.

Individual wins went to Noah Bostick (5,020 points in the heptathlon), Adam Leeper (14.41 meters in the triple jump) and Ryan Thompson (1:53.87 in the 800 run).

Men's Basketball

Slippery Rock University lost a 53-51 heart-breaking PSAC-West game at Seton Hill on Saturday.

SRU held a 48-47 lead with 1:21 to play before the Griffins' Kameron Taylor hit a pair of baskets for a 51-48 edge with 27 seconds remaining.

The Rock's Jamal Gatali drained a 3-pointer to tie the game, but Taylor hit two free throws in the closing seconds as Seton Hill posted the two-point win.

Cornelius Brown scored 17 points in leading SRU (12-11, 7-10), while Malcolm Richardson had 10.

Women's Basketball

Slippery Rock was dominated in the first and fourth quarters in a 76-45 loss at Seton Hill.

The Rock was outscored by a combined 34 points (46-12) in that span and dropped to 11-12 overall and 7-10 in the PSAC-West standings.

Lexi Carpenter led SRU with 18 points and Ciara Patterson added 10.
