Police urge woman to turn herself in after car crash

FRAZER TWP, Allegheny County — A Butler County woman — missing for more than 24 hours after authorities believe she crashed her car in this township — has turned up, sort of.

Amber Marchlewski, 29, whose last known address was Butler, is well but in hiding, according to what a family member told investigators this morning, said Frazer Police Chief Terry Kuhns.

“Her sister said she's OK, but she's afraid we have (arrest) warrants out for her,” Kuhns said. “We don't.”

Authorities hope Marchlewski would turn herself today.

The search for her began after she wrecked her car between late Sunday night and early Monday morning on Butler Logan Road in Frazer Township.

But the crash, which sent Marchlewski's 2004 Buick LeSabre over a hillside, wasn't discovered until about 7:20 a.m. Monday.

Along with the car, which was totaled, police found clothes that they believed the woman was wearing when family members last saw her.

Police contacted members of Marchlewski's family, some who live in Butler, who said they had not heard from the woman either.

Investigators said she was last seen Sunday about 7:30 p.m.

Her family apparently did not initially know where she was going. Kuhns said the woman's sister today told police Marchlewski may have traveled to the Frazer area to see a former boyfriend.

Police believe she was traveling east on Butler Logan Road where skid marks showed the car went off the road.

The homeowner discovered the wreckage shortly after dawn.

Volunteer firefighters and a state police helicopter on Monday helped search for the woman. Bullet, the Butler County Sheriff's canine officer, and the dog's handler, Sgt. Harry Callithen, also were called.

Kuhns said Marchlewski would face a number of traffic violations from the crash.
