Industrial plant fire reported

ALLEGHENY TWP — A large fire broke out Saturday morning at a plant on Route 38.

The fire was reported about 7:50 a.m. at Oxbow Activated Carbon. Callers to 911 reported seeing flames shooting through the roof of the plant.

The Eau Claire Volunteer Fire Department was the lead fire agency on scene. Firefighters were calling for tankers from several departments.

About seven to eight fire departments initially were called for the fire, according to Butler County 911.

Further information was unavailable.

The Emlenton-based company, which opened its plant in the township in 2001, supplies products made of different types of carbon. In June 2002 much of the interior of one of its buildings was destroyed in a fire.
