Police captain retires

Butler City Police will return to having one captain in its force following the retirement of a longtime officer.

Capt. David Dalcamo retired from the department after 17 years. His last day was Sunday.

Mayor Tom Donaldson said Dalcamo is taking a position with the state Office of the Attorney General.

Dalcamo was one of two captains in the 23-officer department. Donaldson said he and the Fraternal Order of Police union agreed to return to one captain following Dalcamo’s retirement.

Capt. Ronald Fierst now becomes to sole captain on the force.

However, Fierst is on paid leave with an injury he suffered while on duty this past fall.

The department has had two captains since Donaldson became mayor in 2014. Donaldson at that time named Ron Brown chief of police and returned Fierst, who had been serving as chief, to his previous rank of Captain alongside Dalcamo.

City council has approved the hiring process to replace Dalcamo with a new patrolman.
