Butler man charged after hitting woman with his car

A Butler man is facing aggravated assault charges after he allegedly drove onto a city sidewalk and struck a woman with his vehicle during an altercation outside her apartment in November.

City police today filed two felony charges against Sheldon L. Hile, 19, who allegedly fled the scene after the incident.

Police on Nov. 27 responded to the 100 block of West Jefferson Street at about 5:45 p.m. after witnesses reported a woman had been stuck by a vehicle driven by a black male.

The woman, Heather Grosskopf, told officers that she heard arguing outside her apartment and went outside to investigate, according to court records.

She saw a group of men arguing, one of whom had a gun.

Police said Grosskopf told the men to leave and they started to argue with her.

At that time, Hile allegedly got into a vehicle and drove onto the sidewalk, attempting to strike one of the men involved in the dispute. However, Hile’s vehicle struck Grosskopf instead, knocking her to the ground.

Grosskopf was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for treatment. She suffered a broken collar bone and had 100 stitches and staples in her left leg, according to court records.

Grosskopf at the time told police she only knew the defendant as Sheldon, but later identified him as Sheldon Hile.

Hile is facing charges of aggravated assault, aggravated assault with a vehicle, accidents involving injury, and recklessly endangering another person.
