SR relay unit sets school indoor mark

Slippery Rock's Claudia Allen, Emily Webb, Brooke Gentile and Kayla Latoza teamed up to break the school record in the girls 4x200 relay with a time of 2 minutes, 1.29 seconds at the Youngstown State University indoor track and field invitational on Saturday.

Fred Urbaniak led the Rocket boys with a second-place effort in the 60-meter hurdles (8.51).

Following are the Slippery Rock athletes who placed in the top eight.

Girls

4x200 relay: 1-Slippery Rock (Allen, Webb, Gentile, Latoza) 2:01.29; Triple jump: 4-Megan Gresgott 27-1.5; 60 hurdles: 5-Brady Dalton 10.05, 7-Claudia Allen 10.32; Pole vault: 6-Camila Valencia 8-0, 8-Sara Gold 8-0.

Boys

60 hurdles: 2-Fred Urbaniak 8.51; Pole vault: 7-Logan Long 10-0.

Girls Basketball

Moniteau junior Sara Hull put up a double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds as the Warriors crushed host Venango Catholic 59-27.

Alazia Greaves led Moniteau (12-5) with 16 points and Kristina DeMatteis scored 15.

C.W. North Catholic 55, Kennedy Catholic 42 — The Trojanettes improved to 14-2 with this win at Slippery Rock University.

Boys Basketball

Despite a combined 35 points from Brendan Record (21) and Kaiden Young (14), Grove City (11-5, 6-4) fell 61-52 at Franklin.

C.W. North Catholic 65, Laurel 60 — Tristan Newcamp led a quartet of double-figure scorers for the Trojans with 16 points at Slippery Rock University.

Kenny Fukon (15), Eric Taylor (12) and Vinnie DiNicola (11) also had solid games for the Trojans (10-7).

Wrestling

Butler's Christian Sequete won all five of his bouts, including three pins, at 170 pounds to lead the Golden Tornado to a fifth-place finish at the Clearfield Duals.

Butler went 3-2 at the event, defeating DuBois Area (40-38), James Coughlin (48-33) and Port Allegany (42-30) while losing to General McLane (45-23) and West Branch (41-30).

Earning a record of 4-1 for Butler were Justin Johnson (195 pounds) and Scott Dietrich (138). Going 3-2 were Sam Dietrich (132), Caleb Baxter (152), Tom Greaves (182), Saavon Mosby (220) and Seth McCrea (285).

The competition included 10 teams.

Butler will next wrestle at Fox Chapel on Wednesday in the Section 3 fifth-place match against the Foxes. A win would send the Golden Tornado to the WPIAL team tournament.

Private Schools

Caitlyn Mueller scored a career-high 20 points and added four steals, but the First Baptist Christian girls basketball team suffered a 57-53 overtime loss on Friday.

Lydia Roth had 17 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Alexis Barnhart added eight points and nine rebounds and Shelby Poorman 10 rebounds.
