Swimmers strong despite no home

Knoch bests Mars, Freeport at Butler's pool

Three schools.

No home.

When the Knoch, Mars and Freeport swimming and diving teams met Tuesday night for a meet at Butler High School, it was the battle of the vagabonds.

All three school have had to compete without a home pool.

“It's a tribute to these kids what they have been able to accomplish (without a home pool),” said Knoch swimming coach Rick Hassler. “Mars won a (boys) state title with just six kids. Look at the individual results and team championships. It's phenomenal.”

On this night, the Knoch boys and girls claimed a sweep of Mars and Freeport.

Behind a pair of wins by John Wilson, the Knights edged Mars, 55-46, and downed Freeport, 66-35.

Mars beat Freeport, 68-30.

Brooke Zukowski picked up a pair of individual wins to help the Knoch girls swim past Mars, 71-31, and Freeport, 64-34.

Mars edged Freeport, 52-48.

Both Knoch teams are 8-1.
