Hampton surprises Mars in OT, 85-84

Kyle Reese hit a free throw with one second left in overtime as Hampton upset Mars 85-84 in high school boys basketball action Tuesday night.

Mars trailed by 13 at the half, but stormed back thanks to four players who scored in double digits.

Robby Carmody scored 29 points, including 14 in the third quarter as the Planets took a three-point lead.

Christian Schmitt added 22 points, John Castello 18 and Steve Castello 10 for Mars (10-4, 6-1).

The Planets, though, had no answer for Hampton's Antonio Ionadi, who hit 9 3-pointers and scored 37 points.

The loss drops Mars into a three-way tie atop Section 1-AAA with Hampton and Highlands.

Grove City 69, George Junior Republic 63 — Brendan Record poured in 26 points as the Eagles buried nine 3-pointers as a team in this win.

Kaiden Young and Kameron Patterson each added 11 points for Grove City (8-4), which overcame a 12-point halftime deficit to win.

Games postponed — The Moniteau girls home basketball game against North Clarion, the A-C Valley girls home game against Cranberry and the Union girls home game against Venango Catholic scheduled for Tuesday were postponed.

All three games will be played today with the junior varsity tip-off scheduled for 6 p.m.

The Karns City girls home game against Forest Area was also postponed. No make-up date has been announced.

The Summit Academy boys basketball game scheduled for Tuesday at Apollo-Ridge was also postponed.

Hockey

Tyler Murphy scored three goals in the first two periods as Seneca Valley cruised to a 6-1 win over Shaler.

Christopher Lipnicky, Jared Hulbert and Alexander Crilley also scored for the Raiders, who out-shot Shaler 41-22.

Private Schools

The First Baptist Christian School girls basketball team got 14 points and 12 rebounds from Shelby Poorman in a 46-34 win over Evangel Heights Christian Academy Tuesday night.

Caitlyn Mueller added 10 points and eight steals and Alexis Barnhart also scored 10 points for First Baptist.
