Donald L. Double

Donald L. Double

Donald L. Double, 79, of Butler passed away Friday at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a long battle with COPD (emphysema).

Born Nov. 2, 1936, in Clay Township, he was son of the late Hoyt Double and Viola (Christley) Double.

Don was a ladle craneman at Armco, now known as AK Steel, retiring in 1993 with 33 years of service.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Korean War. He was a member of American Legion Post 117.

Don was a member of St. Wendelin Church. When he became too ill to attend, he loved watching Father Harry saying Mass on TV. Don was a great caregiver for many people in his lifetime. He loved the Lord, his family, watching the Pirates and the “Young and the Restless” and celebrating St. Patty's Day with his wife. He also liked attending Cahal Dunne concerts and doing woodworking.

Don liked to travel and to make people laugh. Don was a 1954 graduate of West Sunbury High School and the Butler Business School. We are comforted by knowing that Don is talking to Jesus, safe and secure in His love. You will be missed, but glad you are free at last.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, Patty (Baptiste) Double, his angel, whom he married June 17, 1989; two sons, Kirby (Brenda) Double and Jason (Kristl) Double; one granddaughter, Marissa; one grandson, Jonah; one step-grandson, Kevin (Kelly) Main; one step-great-grandson, Ayden Main; two brothers-in-law, Larry (Kathy) Baptiste and Russ Baptiste Sr.; three sisters-in-law, Helen (Willie) Byers, Gerry (Gary) McConnell and Helen (Dave) Hayden; a very special aunt and uncle, Tootie and Fred Minehart; two special guardian angels, Jim and Marie Marburger; and many cherished nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia A. (Christy) Double, whom he married January 1960, and who passed away June 15, 1986; three brothers, Kenneth, William and Raymond Double; and one sister, Helen Fulmer.
