Tornado girls win easily, 75-27

Eyth hits for 25 in Butler victory

A winning streak.

But that wasn't the streak that made Butler girls basketball coach Joe Lewandowski the happiest.

It was the streak of practices he and his team were able to get leading into the Sto-Rox Tournament, where the Golden Tornado beat Westinghouse Tuesday, 75-27, after a win on Monday over Lincoln Park.

“I think the big thing was we were able to string together practices,” Lewandowski said. “We were able to string four practices in a row together and that played a huge part. We were able to settle down.”

Butler had begun the season 0-7 before the two wins at Sto-Rox.

Alyssa Eyth, who just returned to the lineup last week after a pair of knee injuries, scored 25 points and added seven rebounds in the win over Westinghouse.

“For Alyssa, it was basically her third varsity game ever,” Lewandowski said of the sophomore guard/forward. “To put in 25 points has been a huge boost for us, a needed lift.”

Kelsee Callihan added 10 points and Jenna Kunst eight points and eight rebounds for Butler, which will play at Latrobe Monday.

That gives Butler and Lewandowski another stretch of practices to build on this winning streak.

“We're excited,” Lewandowski said. “It's a nice way to head into the new year with a couple of wins. The best part is we get three more practices before Latrobe.”
