Felon faces more charges

She's suspected of stealing from elderly

A suspected con artist with a history of preying on the elderly again is charged with another criminal case.

An 89-year-old Butler woman with dementia was Ricki Lee Double’s victim in the latest case filed against her last week, authorities said.

Double, 31, no known address, is already awaiting trial in 10 other cases. Her criminal record shows two dozen felony convictions, mostly for forgery.

She has been in the Butler County Prison since Oct. 18 after her arrest for allegedly stealing money from two elderly residents at a Jefferson Township assisted living facility.

In the newest case filed Wednesday, Butler Township police charged Double with felony counts of forgery and identify theft. A preliminary hearing is Thursday.

Those charges, police said, stem from a Sept. 29 incident at the Butler Commons’ Walmart where Double conned an 89-year-old woman with “onset dementia.”

The victim told officers that she noticed a woman, later identified as Double, “visibly upset” in the store, according to court documents.

The suspect claimed her vehicle had broken down and asked the older woman for $20. The victim explained she did not have money.

However, before long, Double had convinced the woman to turn over her credit card and personal identification number.

Store video surveillance later showed Double using the elderly victim’s credit card to buy soda pop and candy.

She also received $200 in cash back transactions, documents said.

Police who reviewed the video recognized Double, who is well known to law enforcement authorities.

When Butler police arrested her on Oct. 18, they knew she was wanted by state police on charges of stealing $270 from two elderly men at Concordia Lutheran Ministries on Oct. 11 and 12.

She is accused of posing as an employee at the assisted living facility to get into the victims’ rooms and take the money from their wallets.

State police charged her with two felony counts of trespass and two misdemeanors counts each of theft and receiving stolen property. Those charges are pending in county court.

Also pending trial are numerous charges in nine other cases in which she allegedly used a variety of ruses to scam elderly victims out of money.

City officers said when they arrested Double last month at the Terrace Apartments on South Cliff Street she was asking residents for money.

A search of the suspect turned up two used syringes, a drug cooking spoon, crack pipe and other contraband.

She was taken to county prison where an additional search found a half pill of the narcotic painkiller Subutex in her bra.

City police subsequently charged her with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors. A preliminary hearing is set Dec. 7.

Charging documents in some of the other cases indicated Double was seeking money to support her drug habit.
