PSU has paid $93M to Sandusky accusersHARRISBURG — Penn State says it settled with six more victims or accusers of Jerry Sandusky during the year that ended June 30, bringing the payout total to nearly $93 million.The university’s audited financial statements, dated Oct. 30, show $33.2 million in new payments over claims related to the university’s retired longtime assistant football coach.The report says more claims could be paid in the future.Penn State had said in October 2013 it had agreed to pay 26 people $59.7 million related to the Sandusky scandal. The report says the school’s now paid 32 claims.Sandusky is pursuing an appeal while he serves 30 to 60 years in prison on a 45-count child sexual abuse conviction.

Feudale stripped of senior judge statusHARRISBURG — Pennsylvania’s highest court is ending the “senior judge” status of a jurist who oversaw grand juries that investigated political corruption in the state as well as former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky.The state Supreme Court earlier this month informed former Northumberland County Judge Barry Feudale that he is no longer a senior judge.Feudale says he chose not to respond to the high court because he hadn’t been given any work for two years anyway, so he was “removed from doing nothing.”

No contract at end of teachers strikeCANONSBURG — Classes have resumed in a western Pennsylvania school district following a 21-day teachers strike, but the teachers still have no contract.About 4,300 students went back to school in Peters Township on Friday. State law mandated they return in order to get the required 180 days of instruction by June 15.Nearly 300 teachers in the suburban Pittsburgh district went on strike Oct. 28. Disputed issues include salaries, class size and the length of work days.
