Freyermuth medals at PIAA
Max Freyermuth made Knoch school history Saturday by becoming the first boy in school history to earn a medal at the PIAA Class AA state championship race Saturday in Hershey.
Freyermuth placed 13th overall with a time of 16 minutes, 35 seconds. The Knights placed fourth as a team, just ahead of Grove City.
In Class AAA, Seneca Valley senior Michael Kolor led the way for local runners.
Kolor finished the race in 16:08, which was good for 13th place.
Butler sophomore Noah Beveridge came in 33rd place.
On the girls' side, Knoch senior Mandi Moxie finished in 19:24 to place 14th. Moxie is the only runner in Knights' school history to qualify for states all four years.
The Seneca Valley girls placed third as a team in the Class AAA race. Julia Kooser was the top finisher for the Raiders, coming in 37th (19:29). Mariah Mack was just behind Kooser, placing 39th with a time of 19:31.
Butler's Maggie Welty was the top local finisher in Class AAA, placing 33rd with a time of 19:26.
VolleyballA-C Valley lost a two-set lead and fell to Clarion 3-2 in the District 9 championship at St. Marys.The Falcons also lost the “true second” match, falling to Elk County Catholic 2-1.Against the Bobcats, A-C Valley won the first two sets 25-19 and 25-18. Clarion then rallied to win the final three 25-16, 25-13, 16-14.Morgan Cratty led the Falcons with 11 kills, while Josie Terwilliger and Halee Wetzel each had 13. Kiersten Rothen and Alyssa Babcock each had 11 assists for A-C Valley.Upper St. Clair 3, Seneca Valley 1 — The Raiders were prevented from making the PIAA playoffs with a loss to the Panthers in the WPIAL Class AAA third-place game.
