Dougherty in PIAA golf finals

Freeport's Audrey Dougherty carded an 80 (44-36) Monday at the PIAA Class AA Girls Western Regional golf event at Tom's Run Golf Course in Blairsville.

The effort was good for third place and advances Dougherty to the PIAA finals for the third straight year.

In the boys' event, Freeport's Mickey Frazetta tied with four other golfers for 22nd place after shooting an 87 (45-42). All five golfers went to a playoff to determine the final transfer spot to the state event and Frazetta bogeyed the No. 1 hole, ending his season.

A-C Valley senior Noah Morgan also missed the cut, firing a 98.

Girls SoccerOlivia Gaspersic scored a pair of goals and also had an assist as Freeport beat Karns City 3-1.Hannah Stokes also scored for the Yellowjackets (10-5).Abby Wolfe scored the lone goal for Karns City (15-1).Mars 2, Mt. Lebanon 0 — Shannon Doyle and Tori Kopchak each scored goals for the Planets.
