Union snaps losing streak against Clarion

Knights record 32-0 shutout of Bobcats

Union football coach Dave Louder led the Golden Knights to their first-ever district playoff win last season.

But Louder feels the Golden Knights' 32-0 win over Clarion Friday night at Memorial Stadium rivals that milestone.

It was Union's first win over the Bobcats since 1994 and Clarion's first conference loss since the KSAC split into Large and Small School Divisions in 2011.

The Bobcats last conference loss was Oct. 16, 2009 against Karns City. Clarion had never lost to a KSAC Small school since the split into divisional play.

“It's got to be the biggest win for the coaches and the community,” Louder said. “If our team lost every game, but beat Clarion that would make up for the entire season. That's the golden egg right there.”

Union (3-4, 2-3) maintained its spot in the playoff chase by limiting Clarion (4-2, 3-1) to 85 yards of offense.

Dugan Gallagher led the Golden Knights' offensive surge, piling up 145 yards rushing and scoring two touchdowns.

Union quarterback Lucas Bowser ran for 72 yards and scored, while adding 88 yards through the air on 8-of-9 passing.

General McLane 42, Slippery Rock 21

Neither team completed a pass — McLane didn't even attempt one — but there was plenty of running with the ball.

Kyle Sult rushed for 273 yards and three touchdowns, Ryan Carpenter 147 yards and two scores for McLane. Trent Porter ran for 157 yards and a touchdown, Ryan Lauster 158 yasrds and two scores for the Rockets (4-3).

McLane (6-1) took a 28-7 lead into halftime.

Karns City 58, Central Tech 34

Maverick Kelsea led the way for the unbeaten Gremlins (7-0), recording three touchdowns, a forced fumble and interception in a non-conference win.

Collin Dunmyre (twice), Chandler Turner and Cullen Williams also scored touchdowns for Karns City. Central Tech fell to 5-2 on the season.

CW North Catholic 26, Avonworth 14

Erick Taylor threw a 50-yard touchdown pass to Khalil Weathers and rushed for another to help the Trojans grab control of the Black Hills Conference.

Weathers also added a rushing touchdown, while Keith Wells also scored on a 4-yard run for the Trojans (7-0, 5-0).

Redbank Valley 37, A-C Valley 14

Connor Shoemaker threw touchdown passes of 20, 6 and 2 yards and scored on a 5-yard run for the winning Bulldogs.

Eric Pirl scored on a 51-yard run and Jeffrey Ginn produced a 2-yard scoring jaunt for A-C Valley (0-7).
