Freeport golf in WPIAL final

Slippery Rock's Chase Baxa, back, challenges Grove City's Steven Biddle for possession in a recent boys soccer game. The Rockets have won eight of nine games behind a unified concept this season.

Mickey Frazetta fired a 75 at Glengarry Golf Links to help the Freeport golf team advance to the WPIAL team finals for the fourth straight season.

Justin Hildebrand also had a good round for the Yellowjackets, shooting a 79.

Freeport shot a 408 as a team to finish second behind Sewickley Academy, which shot a 386.

Cross County

Nick Shea placed second in the boys race with a time of 17:25 to help Slippery Rock edge Greenville 24-36.

Tabitha Donaldson was second for the Rockets in the girls' race, but Slippery Rock fell to the Trojans 22-33.

Wallace wins — Moniteau's Cloey Wallace ran a time of 22:52 to win the girls race against incomplete teams from A-C Valley and Keystone.

Wyatt Geibel of Moniteau was second in the boys race for the Warriors, who also competed against incomplete teams from A-C Valley and Keystone.

Karns City falls — Conrad Snyder placed fourth in the boys race, but the Gremlins lost to Clarion 24-31.

Ashlyn Hildebrand was fifth in the girls race for Karns City in a pair of losses to Clarion and Clarion-Limestone.

Because of confusion with the course layout at Clarion Park in Shippenville, runners didn't complete the 3.1-mile course, running approximately 2.7 miles instead.

Volleyball

Morgan Cratty had a big night for A-C Valley in a key KSAC match against Redbank Valley with 13 kills, four blocks, 10 digs and three aces in the Falcons' 22-25, 25-21, 25-20, 26-24 win.

A-C Valley (11-0, 9-0) can clinch a conference title with a win Thursday against North Clarion.

Halee Wetzel had a big match as well with 16 service points, 11 digs, 12 kills and three blocks.

Josey Terwilliger added 10 kills and 23 digs, Katie Stumpner 21 digs and 12 kills, Kiersten Rothen 21 digs and 17 assists and Alyssa Babcok nine digs and 22 assists for the Falcons.

Knoch 3, Valley 0 — Sarah Armahizer had 13 kills and five blocks as the Knights swept Valley 25-18, 25-9, 25-8.

Abby Pospisil added 19 service points and Celia Knappenberger had 12 service points for Knoch (11-2, 8-2).

Freeport 3, Obama Academy 0 — Morgan Ruppersberger recorded 11 kills, seven service points and three blocks as the Yellowjackets won 25-14, 25-12, 25-6.

Maggie Ward added 29 assists and 10 points and Kristie Radvan had 25 points for Freeport (12-1, 9-0).

North Allegheny 3, Butler 0 — Alexis Schmeider had five kills for the Golden Tornado.

Hickory 3, Slippery Rock 0 — Lexi Romeo had 10 kills and Kortney Schaum 20 digs, but the Rockets fell 28-26, 25-22, 25-16.

Kacie Brandenburg added eight blocks for Slippery Rock (3-6).

Union 3, Moniteau 0 — The Damsels swept the Warriors 25-17, 25-15, 25-18.

Boys Soccer

Kris Matus and Val Panger each scored three goals as Knoch routed Highlands 11-0.

Micah Keller also scored a pair of goals for Knoch (7-5-2, 6-4-1).

Shady Side Academy 2, Freeport 0 — Shady Side scored a goal in each half and shut out the Yellowjackets (8-7, 6-5).

North Hills 3, Butler 0 — The Golden Tornado dropped this section match.
