Go with Democrats

Regarding the letter by Steven Hively (“New Board Coming” Oct. 9).

Yes, Butler County will elect three new commissioners on Nov. 3 and we will enjoy a cessation of the “ongoing dysfunction, waste, inefficiency, discord and confusion,” that we have endured for the past four years. The quote is taken directly from the writer’s letter.

He endorsed the candidacy of Kim Geyer, who has been sitting in the middle of all of that dysfunction, waste, inefficiency, discord and confusion. Geyer was on the job when the county gave away Sunnyview; when we harvested our timber at Alameda Park; and when the county cut back on interaction with the public. She has silently watched as county government used deceptive accounting to accomplish the excesses of the Republican majority.

I endorse first the two Democratic candidates for commissioner; Kevin Boozel and Jerry Johnston. I will not champion one over the other as they are two different individuals who bring complementary but different skills to the board of commissioners. Both are lifelong residents of Butler, have extensive histories of public service and hold master’s degrees from area universities.

The Democratic candidates are thoughtful, educated and dedicated to making Butler County a wonderful place to live and raise a family.

A board of commissioners with a Democratic majority anchored by these two candidates could solve existing problems and lead Butler County to greater prosperity.

For a third commissioner I would choose Leslie Osche, a Republican.

In my view the other two candidates — Geyer and Michael Badges-Canning — are far less desirable than Boozel, Johnston and Osche.

Geyer should decide whether she wants to represent the interests of county residents or if she wants to drill gas wells adjacent to the schools attended by their children.

Badges-Canning is a poor representative of the Green Party, which I think has an important voice in this country.
