Freeport still rolling

Volleyball team sweeps Knoch, stays unbeaten

Zoe Pawlak and Maddie Christy each had 18 service points, three aces and seven kills as the Freeport volleyball team swept rival Knoch 25-12, 25-17, 25-9 in a key section matchup Thursday night.

Morgan Ruppersberger added eight kills and three blocks and Katie Zangaro and Hannah Connor each pitched in five kills for the Yellowjackets (10-0, 8-0).

Sarah Armahizer led Knoch (9-2, 7-2) with seven kills and Carly Bozzo added 16 digs.

Both Knoch section losses this season have come at the hands of Freeport.

Hampton 3, Butler 0 — Paige Lambermont led the Golden Tornado with eight kills while Caitlin Martin had seven service points.

North Clarion 3, Moniteau 1 — The Warriors dropped this match 18-25, 17-25, 25-16, 10-25.

Girls SoccerMars managed just one goal as non-section foe Pine-Richland downed the Planets 3-1.Mars (11-2) came into the match with 28 goals in its last four outings.The Planets host Freeport Monday.

Boys SoccerVal Panger scored the only goal with five minutes remaining in the first half as Knoch edged Shady Side Academy 1-0.Keeper Stephen Grumski had 13 saves in the shutout for the Knights (6-4-2, 5-3-1).Karns City 10, Redbank Valley 0 — Spenser Myers, Jace Ebbitts, Noah Pollock and Nick Dodds each scored a pair of goals as Karns City rolled over Redbank Valley.Mars 10, Highlands 0 — Corey Heim scored three goals in the rout for the Planets (12-0-1, 10-0).
