Long-time antiques dealer Ellen King will discuss her doll collection Oct. 15 at the Maridon Museum.
Dolls focus of collector talk at Maridon

“The Collectors,” a new program series offered by the Maridon Museum, features area residents talking about their art collections.

The program for 7 p.m. Oct. 15 is “Hello Dolly” by Ellen King.

King, a long-time antiques dealer, will talk about and show some of her doll collection. She will explain the many types, styles and makers of the dolls and how the values vary and why.

The dolls King will discuss date from 1870 to the 1940s, including the first one she received, a composition doll made by Effanbee, an American doll firm. The oldest doll is a parian head and is German.

She also will discuss research books, specialty magazines, museums, clubs and the market in general.

Attendees may also bring a doll for discussion.

“The Collectors” series takes place select Thursdays at the museum at 322 N. McKean St. Reservations are required. Call the museum at 724-282-0123.
