EVANS CITY — J.J. Hensley, who wrote the novels “Resolve” and “Measure Twice,” will appear at 6 p.m. today at the Evans City Public Library, 204 S. Jackson St.

Hensley is a former police officer and former special agent with the U.S. Secret Service.

His first novel, “Resolve,” was named one of the Best Books of 2013 by Suspense Magazine and was a finalist for the International Thriller Writers' Best First Novel.

SARVER — The Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Department, 565 Sarver Road, will host a vendor fair from noon to 5 p.m. Oct. 17.

SLIPPERY ROCK — St. Peter Parish of Slippery Rock, will host an Oktoberfest celebration Oct. 16 and 17.The festival will include a free children's costume parade at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 17. It will leave from the lawn of the SRU McKay Education Building, 105 Maltby Ave., and have several stops for treats.Registration for a free, ground level Little Tykes Ninja Warrior Competition will begin at 10:30 a.m. on the lawn in front of the McKay Education Building.
