BC3 golfers win title again

Butler graduates Tommy Dimun and Jake Campbell each shot an 84 on a windy morning at The Links at Spring Church Sunday to help the Butler County Community College golf team to its third straight Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference championship.

The Pioneers shot 340 as a team, 17 strokes better than runner-up CCAC-Boyce.

Kittanning grad Nathan Falchetti shot an 85 and Butler grad Alec Geibel shot an 87 for BC3, which will play in the Pennsylvania Invitational for community colleges at Penn National Golf Club in Chambersburg Oct. 11-12.

Men's SoccerDespite goals from Ryan Lutke and Justin Minda, the Slippery Rock University men's soccer team fell to Bloomsburg 3-2 in overtime Saturday.Nick Izzo scored the game-winner for the Huskies from 35 yards out into the upper left corner of the goal 7:59 into overtime.The Rock (6-4, 2-3) received six saves by goalkeeper Steven Rerick.

Women's SoccerThe Rock (6-4, 5-3) could not find the net in a 1-0, double-overtime loss to Bloomsburg.Allie Barber scored the winning goal 39 seconds into the second OT.

FootballGrove City College led Waynesburg 31-28 midway through the fourth quarter, but the Yellow Jackets scored the winning touchdown with 35 seconds remaining on a 4-yard run by Jerry Lawman to hand the Wolverines a 35-31 loss.Grove City (0-4, 0-2) trailed 14-7 after the first quarter, but stormed ahead 24-14 early in the third quarter thanks to a field goal by Payton Carlucci and a pair of touchdown runs by Nick Scholle.After Waynesburgregained the lead, Josh Peach hauled in a 12-yard touchdown pass from Matt Pennypacker to give the Wolverines a 31-28 advantage.Waynesburg, though, marched 50 yard in 2:54 for the winning score.
