Wine, brew fest supports library

Fundraiser set for Oct. 10

MARS — An Erie winery will provide the wine for the Autumn Wine and Brew Fest, which is the Mars Public Library’s largest fundraising event of the year.

Mazza Vineyards will bring 10 to 15 selections to the festival, which will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 10 at the Treesdale Community Center, according to Vince Gadrix, library director,

“They’re one of the largest wineries in Pennsylvania so we were very happy to get them,” Gadrix said.

The beer provider for the event once again will be North Country Brewing of Slippery Rock and Harmony. Gadrix said North Country also brings 10 to 15 micro brews to the festival.

Fairground Market Catering will provide the hors d’oeuvres.

Gadrix said a musical trio will play classical music throughout the evening.

He said the people who attended last year’s inaugural event were those who support, lead and work at the library.

“It’s a really great casual night,” Gadrix said. “All these people know each other, but it’s nice to get together and not go over business.”

Gadrix said that 17 upscale gift baskets will be bid on.

Library board President Nancy Tenney said last year fest “was very lively.”

She said wine and beer lovers enjoyed learning about their drinks.

“It’s educational and lots of fun, and it supports the library,” Tenney said.

Gadrix said about 140 people attended the festival last year and raised about $5,000 for the library.

Gadrix said information and ticket costs are available on the library’s website, www.marsarealibrary.org.

“The best reason to come are the people who attend,” Gadrix said. “If you love the library, then you love the people who use it and support it.”
