9 street-level drug dealers arrested in sweep

Nine people were arrested in a drug sweep Tuesday across Butler County that targeted street-level dealers.

The Butler County Drug Task Force spearheaded the roundup that began in the morning and continued for most of the day.

“These are the typical drug dealers that the public sees on the street,” said Butler County Detective Tim Fennell, who leads the task force. “We want them taken off the streets. That’s what we did.”

Assisting the task force sweep were Butler police and county sheriff’s deputies and probation officers. Grove City police also helped in one of the arrests.

Most of the suspects were at their homes in Butler when officers picked them up on arrest warrants stemming from task force drug investigations earlier this year.

The suspects scooped up Tuesday were among a list of 16 purported dealers wanted on arrest warrants issued Monday.

One of those on the list was nabbed over the weekend in Allegheny County and for now is being held in the Allegheny County Jail. The others are still at large.

Heroin and crack cocaine were the primary drugs being peddled by the suspects, authorities said.
