Bike, car crash this morning send 1 to hospital

PENN TWP -- Township police said Edward Walthour, 65, of Parker, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with a possible broken leg after a car pulled out in front of his motorcycle Friday morning on Route 8 southbound.

PENN TOWNSHIP — Township police say a car pulled out in front of a motorcycle on Route 8 southbound about 10 a.m. today, causing a rear-end collision which sent one man to the hospital complaining of leg and rib injuries.

Police said Edward Walthour, 65, was driving his Harley-Davidson south when a Hyundai Elantra driven by Sue Ann William of Butler pulled out from the parking lot of Planet Mart gas station and into the Walthour’s path.

Walthour’s motorcycle rear-ended the car and partially ripped the vehicle’s rear bumper off before apparently tipping onto its left side, police said.

Walthour complained of leg and rib pain once emergency responders arrived, and he was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with a possible broken leg. Police said he was wearing a helmet, which had a large scuff mark as the result of the crash.

The Middlesex Township Police, Butler Ambulance, Butler County Sheriff’s deputies and the Penn Township Volunteer Fire Department responded to the accident, which slowed traffic on the road until about 10:30 a.m.
