Martha J. (Merkel) Beitle
Martha J. (Merkel) Beitle, 98, formerly of South Hills, passed away Saturday.
Born Oct. 17, 1916, in Brookline, Pa., the youngest of 10 children to Rosa and Joseph Merkel.
After marrying Philip Beitle Jr. in 1936, she lived in Castle Shannon and later retired to a farm in Petrolia.
Martha was a tremendous mother and homemaker who loved to polka and do crosswords puzzles, and she played a mean game of Scrabble.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip, and a grandson, Richard.
She is survived by her only son, Roy (Gail) Beitle; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, who will miss her dearly.

Beitle, who died Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015, will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pleasant Hills.The funeral service will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home chapel.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Presbyterian Senior Care, Southminster Place, 880 S.
