Charles W. Ley

Charles W. Ley of Adams Township, formerly of Cranberry Township, passed away Monday.

Charles was born June 24, 1928, in Pittsburgh, the son of the late John J. and Bertha (Ley) Harvey.

He was the beloved husband for 67 years of Charlotte (Rothermel); the loving father of Cathy Scheidemantle and her husband, Terry, of Harmony and Ben Ley and his wife, Kim, of Murrysville; the proud grandfather of Timothy Scheidemantle and his wife, Rhonda, Scott Scheidemantle, Tyler Ley and Kevin Cline; the devoted great-grandfather of Emma, Grant and Cooper Scheidemantle; and three additional grandchildren.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Christopher Cline; and his great-grandson, Brad Scheidemantle.

Charles grew up in Warrendale, Pa., and graduated from Mars High School. He attended Robert Morris College and worked for 10 years with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in its accounting department.

In 1959, he then moved to Cranberry Township and became the owner of the Oak Leaf Motel, which he operated for 50 years. Charles also had an accounting firm, Charles W. Ley Accounting and Tax Services, with his daughter Cathy for over 40 years.

He was a member of the Motel and Restaurant Association, the Cranberry Elks Lodge, the Syria Shriners, the National Society of Accountants, PSPA, the Gourgas Lodge of Perfection — Masonic 32nd Degree and the John C. Muir Lodge 729.

LEY — Friends of Charles W. Ley, who died Monday, Sept. 7, 2015, will be received from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME, 2678 Rochester Road, Cranberry Township, where a funeral service will take place Friday with the time announced later.
