Harry E. Richards Jr.

Harry E. Richards Jr., 91, of Grove City died at 10:15 p.m. Wednesday at the Autumn Grove Care Center, Harrisville.

A son of Harry E. and Elizabeth Depp Richards Sr., he was born Nov. 30, 1923, in Butler. Harry was a 1941 graduate of Harrisville High School.

A veteran of World War II, “Ed” was a Pioneer Platoon Soldier 89th Div. (Rolling W) attached to the 3rd Army under the command of Gen. George Patton. He was awarded two Purple Hearts, two Bronze Stars and the Croix de Guerre, the French Cross of Valor. Proud of his service, he was a charter member of the Harrisville Post 852 of the American Legion and was a life member of the Hickory VFW.

He had over 44 years of service with Cooper Bessemer. At the time of his retirement, he was a storeroom clerk.

As a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, he enjoyed participating in outdoor activities and sports. He later enjoyed watching them on TV with Lucky and Sinbad, his cats.

On June 21, 1961, he married the former Lucretia “Lee” Smoker, who survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Tina L. Richards Myers; one son, Harry E. Richards III, both of Grove City; one granddaughter, Erika L. Myers; and one half-sister, Nancy Deloe, of McKean.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Mary Olive Richards; two brothers, Harold Dale and David Lee Richards; and two sisters, Martha Jean Williams and infant Vivian Ruth.

RICHARDS — Friends of Harry E. Richards Jr., who died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2015, will be received from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Jamison Funeral Home, 117 N. Main St., Harrisville.A funeral Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony Church, Forestville with the Rev. Kevin G. Poecking, pastor, presiding.
