KC, Brookville utilizing rosters

BROOKVILLE — Have your game program handy.

Karns City and Brookville stand to use a lot of players — some new — when they clash at Brookville High School for a 7 p.m. kickoff Friday night.

Brookville, coming off a 2-8 season, has a new coach in Scott Park and a new offense to go with it.

The Raiders will feature a power running game as well as some veer.

Or so Park says.

“The first game is always tough because you just don't know,” said Karns City coach Ed Conto. “You just don't know if everything you've seen from the two weeks of scrimmages is going to be thrown out the window.”

The Gremlins have a history of using a slew of players and the season opener Friday will be no different.

Conto said he used a slew of substitutions during the scrimmage season.

“I saw a lot of improvement from Friday's scrimmage to practice,” Conto said. “The pieces are starting to fall into place.”

Conto still hasn't decided on a starting quarterback, however, between Cullen Williams and Jacob King.

Last year, Conto rotated QBs and he may do that again.

“We're watching every day and as soon as someone jumps out, it's still up in the air,” Conto said. “They're both working hard.”

Park inherits a traditionally strong Class AA team from long-time coach Chris Dworek.

There is talent on the roster in quarterback Seth Ray and receiver/linebacker Logan Thrush.

Breaking in his young talent against Karns City in the opener is not ideal, Park said.

“But, you know, they're a double-A school and we're a double-A school, so we have to play some time. These kids have worked hard and they have bought into something new and that isn't always an easy thing to do.”
