Oil City man allegedly robs grocery store in Emlenton

EMLENTON, Venango County — An Oil City man is in jail after he allegedly robbed a grocery store Monday.

James Allen Tarleton Jr., 61, about 5 p.m. entered the IGA store on River Avenue in the borough and demanded money, according to a state police report.

After the cash register drawer was opened, Tarleton tried to take money from it, but was not able to. He then left the store.

About 5:30 p.m., the vehicle thought to be involved in the robbery was spotted by a Knox borough police officer.

Tarleton and the unidentified driver of the vehicle were arrested.

Tarleton was arraigned before District Judge M.D. Snyder on a charge of robbery.

His bail was set at $50,000, which he was unable to post.

He is in the Venango County Jail.
