Rodeo jokes bombed

On Aug. 19 my family and I attended the North Washington Rodeo, an event we look forward to every year.

Sadly, this year was a big disappointment.

The evening started off great. A beautiful song spoke about living free, and we honored our American flag as a lone rider respectfully carried it on a cantering horse. The announcer followed with prayer for the participants and giving glory to Jesus Christ. The national anthem was sung and the rodeo was off to a start.

Unfortunately, halfway through the evening there was a clown act involving a playful gunbattle, which could have been humorous, but with different dialogue.

After that heartfelt beginning, a completely different attitude was portrayed when jokes were made about President Obama, comparing him to a broken gun that “didn’t work and you couldn’t fire”.

It’s clear that many people do not agree with Obama’s politics, but he still deserves our respect as our leader — and this showed a complete lack of it. It was very insulting to the country they were honoring less than an hour earlier.

It was a bad reflection on those who would allow such — and I use the term loosely — comedy.

Then there was the other insult against Caitlyn Jenner. Did they really have to stoop that low? Such poor judgment.

I’m sure I’m not the only person offended by this, and I’ll definitely pass on future rodeos.
