New hotel, restaurant projects to be discussed

CRANBERRY TWP — The Cranberry Township supervisors will be considering development projects at their Sept. 3. meeting.

A public hearing was held Thursday night in regard to the Woodspring Suites and Panda Express projects preliminary and final land development applications.

Woodspring Suites, which is a Wichita, Kan.-based company, will possibly be building a new extended stay hotel. The plan is to build a four-story hotel with 122-rooms. The project will cost $6 million to $8 million and would create about 300 jobs during construction. Once the hotel is up and running it will have five full-time and five part-time jobs.

Construction on the hotel, if approved by the board, will begin sometime in October and take about a year to complete.

The hotel will be on Wisconsin Avenue behind the Rite Aid store.

The hotel clients are expected to be people staying there for at least 30 days. Nightly rentals are limited and are only available if the occupancy is less than 85 percent.

Potential customers for the hotel are expected be a diverse group of people ranging from those in need of temporary housing, vacationers in for a few weeks or people working in the oil and gas business.

Ron Henshaw, township director of community development, said the applicant has agreed to make a $29,400 payment to mitigate traffic impact to the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue and Route 19.

The board is also considering the development of a Panda Express restaurant. It will be a one story, 2,233-square-foot building with a drive-through. It would be built at 20101 Route 19 in the Cranberry Mall.

The parcel where the restaurant will be located was formerly the Long John Silver’s and A&W Root Beer, Henshaw said.
