Orwald works staged at Preston Park

BUTLER TWP — All the park's a stage it seems, since Hobnob Theatre Company presented its second annual Shakespeare play earlier this summer at Preston Park and now a show that's billed as Shakespeare with a twist is set to play this weekend there, too.

“Shakespeare with Schtick,” three original one-act plays written by award-winning playwright Don Orwald, will be staged Friday through Sunday at the park at 415 S. Eberhart Road.

The plays are at 7 p.m.Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Orwald, a Butler native now residing in Texas, offers retakes of “Macbeth” and “Hamlet.” The author will attend the shows.

“Macbeth Abridged” tells Macbeth's story from the viewpoint of the three witches.

In the second entry, “Something Really Was Rotten in Denmark,” Hamlet survives and stands trial for his crimes.

The final entry, called “Where There's a Will There's a Play,” explores the possibility that Shakespeare actually got his inspiration for “Romeo and Juliet” and “Hamlet” from a boy making a delivery to the Globe Theatre.

Community actors will perform. Directing is Amy Cannard. There will be some adult action and humor. Take a chair or blanket for seating.Tickets are $10 online at eventbrite.com. Tickets also will be available for $12 an hour before each performance. For information, e-mail DonaldOrwald@gmail.com.Proceeds will benefit the Mary Jo Mohn Covert Scholarship fund. The scholarship is available at Butler County Community College for students majoring in theater.Established in 2010, the scholarship was created to honor the memory of Mary Jo Mohn-Covert, a member of Butler's theater community.
