BARKEYVILLE, Venango County — At least five Butler County fire companies have been called to a fuel tank fire near Interstate 80.

According to the county 911 center, firefighters from Harrisville, Marion Township, Slippery Rock, Unionville and West Sunbury have responded to the fire at a Heath Oil Co. refinery, which is on Route 8 just south of the I-80 interchange.

The fire was reported at about 8 a.m. The Venango County 911 center reported that it appeared the fire was out before 8:30 a.m.

An employee at a nearby business reported hearing a “metal ripping” sound and seeing a cap pop off the tank before the flames began. He said that it appeared that the smoke was diminished at about 8:35 a.m.
